CURE post-test

Welcome (or welcome back) to the CURE survey site. This project is a collaborative effort involving faculty and students from many colleges and universities. Together we are learning more about how our science courses can empower student learning. To accomplish this task we have developed a pre-course post-course research design to measure learning gains and other outcomes of taking a science course. This research is funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. It has been approved by institutional review boards at the participating colleges.

If you are taking a course in which the instructor has asked you to participate in this research, you probably filled out a pre-course survey. Because of the complexity of tracking the data from many courses in many institutions, we asked you to identify yourself, your college, and your course. Now the reason for this identification becomes clear: we will match your pre-course information with your post-course evaluation. This alignment of your pre-course responses with your post-course responses permits a sensitive measure of change. Your individual responses will not be revealed to your course instructor. The lead analyst for the project, Prof. David Lopatto of Grinnell College, will keep your data confidential. Only aggregate pretest-posttest data will be reported back to your institution. Your answers cannot affect your grade in the course.

As with any research, you are not compelled to participate. You may elect to not answer individual questions. If you change your mind about completing the survey, just leave the site. It is assumed that the submission of a completed survey is your consent for participation. If you have any questions or comments regarding the survey, please send an email to Prof. Lopatto (lopatto@grinnell.edu). Thanks!

In accordance with the US Department of Health & Human Services and the Grinnell Institutional Review Board, permission is required by parents or guardians and assent by participants under the age of 18 years.  It is the responsibility of the institution providing the research experience or the institution requesting participation in these assessment tools to follow the requirements established by the US Department of Health & Human Services.  http://www.hhs.gov/ohrp/humansubjects/guidance/45cfr46.html#46.402
